Blue salt – 100g

£25.00

Middle Eastern blue salt is a salt fossile or gem whose crystals were produced 250 million years ago in the precambrian seas, as opposed to sea salt, which is taken from salt ponds. This sapphire blue salt created as inland seas and lakes evaporated. This Middle Eastern blue salt was present two hundred and fifty million years ago, along with other species that vanished when the dinosaurs went extinct at the end of the Cretaceous period because of an asteroid, a volcanic eruption, or the retreat of the oceans: dinosaurs, ammonites (ancestors of nautiluses), and large marine and flying reptiles. This Middle Eastern salt’s blue hue is caused by the potassium mineral sylvinite, which is exclusively found in halite salts. Typically, they are pink and blue in hue.

Provenance

Blue Salt is the rarest and oldest salt on the planet and extracted from salt ponds in Semnan, Middle East. is mined from a 260 millions years old cave and was originally formed by an ancient sea. located in the northern Semman Province. The beautiful BLUE derives from a mineral called ‘SYLVITE’, a variant of Crystal Potassium Chloride. These fascinating blue rock crystals were formed by natural fossilisation produced by the ambient external conditions of this region some 260 million years ago.

Health Benefits

Sapphire Blue Salt is considered to be the world’s most valuable and purest salt. This Rock Salt is hand mined from the heart of the Samman salt mines in Iran, part of the former Persian Empire. It is of pure marine origin and comes from fossil deposits left by the sea. Its name comes from the sublime intense bluish hue reflections making it look like a precious stone. This intensely beautiful blue sheen comes from the sylvinite present in the minerals of the mine, a rich potassium compound. The appearance is clearly not uniformly blue though quite a large Crystal part is tinged blue.

Tasting Notes

Blue Salt is the rarest and therefore the most exclusive salt on the planet. As a result of its rarity value and uniqueness, therefore held in high esteem within the culinary world. Its bouquet opens up with a soft flavour and a very crunchy texture. This stunning dark indigo salt grates into a fine white powder, perfect for any seasoning. This Salt is not only extremely delicious, slightly sweet and really mild but also full of nutrients like calcium, magnesium, and iron.

Extracted from this world’s unique salt mine in northern Iran, the colour comes from a crystal structure formation formed under immense pressure; these crystals then fracture the light, creating the optical illusion of a shimmering blue jewel. This salt has a silky sweetness and works beautifully when grated into a very fine white powder. This natural rock salt comes initially over with a wilful flavour, but almost immediately turns mild, leaving a subtle and complex taste with even a hint of sweetness, enhancing virtually any dish.

Finishing dishes too with just a sprinkle, prior to serving, enhances both flavour and appearance; especially recommended with delicate flavours, i.e. fois gras, truffles, seafood, delicate meat dishes, fine vegetables, white fish, salads et al … or even as a subtle drink Rimmer. Alternative applications for subtle Patisseries and Baking, in short complementary to any high end comestibles. Alternative uses are found in top end health and beauty products. Suffice to say that Gourmets and Connoisseurs are besotted by its Taste and Appearance. This salt is not only extremely  delicious, even slightly sweet and extremely mild and by no means aggressive, like sea salt;  it’s also full of nutrients like calcium, magnesium, and iron.
